Tryphina
Rakgotho

I want to be a role model for young people and show them how education can change their lives – I am an example of exactly that!

Tryphina began working as a cleaner at a school in Cape Town,
South Africa. Her love for children shone through.

The principal saw her natural talents and offered her the opportunity to follow her dream by enrolling her on a course in Early Childhood
Development (ECD), funded and run by ORT SA CAPE.

She grabbed the opportunity and completed the 18-month ECD course where subjects such as numeracy, literacy, child development and
perceptual skills are taught. Tryphina graduated in 2016 with flying
colours and was promoted to a teacher’s assistant. After a few years of gaining valuable experience, she was offered the position as a teacher, working with children aged 3 – 4 years.

Tryphina is a true success story, not letting poverty define her. She
epitomizes ORT values and is passionate about ‘’changing lives through education”.

I want to be a teacher so that I can be a positive influence in the children’s lives and they can be one in mine.

When I heard about the ORT SA CAPE internship
– I grabbed the opportunity with both hands.

I am so privileged to work with children every day.

At first it was challenging but I learned how to apply
what we studied in our classes to the school environment.

The environment at the centre is amazing and the staff is very supportive and that is encouraging to me. I am looking forward to learning from them.

Alicia is doing her ECD Level 4 learnership this year.

‘’I started at Little Steps Daycare as an intern and teacher aid.

The experience so far is eye opening and extremely fulfilling.
It is such a joy to be with the little ones every day.

I want to be a positive influence on the children & inspire them to be the best that they can be!”
