We trained 15 Isibindi mentors from the National Association of Child Care Workers (NACCW) from the most rural, disadvantaged areas in all 9 provinces.
Each mentor returned to their respective communities to train and support other child and youth care workers using their new knowledge and kits filled with toys and educational resources provided by ORT SA CAPE. The childcare workers visit and work with children, parents and caregivers in individual homes and teach groups in the 'Safe Parks' to allow children access to education.
Our training assisted them with understanding child development, the appropriate use of toys for this purpose and providing appropriate educational stimulation using both commercially available and recycled resources. Another highlight of the training was the introduction of teaching science and emergent maths in the Early Childhood Development (ECD) environment.
A big thank you to our generous donors and suppliers who assisted us to provide this opportunity.
