ORT SA CAPE has been involved in FIRST Lego League since 2008. After a break in 2010 an ORT SA CAPE team from Gugulethu, entered in 2011. In 2012 a team, comprising of children from all over Cape Town were trained by a previous contestant (now a Mechatronics student), together with our IT Specialist. The Science Champs reached Nationals in December 2012.
In 2013 we entered 6 teams, one of which won a Core Values trophy for Teamwork.
ORT SA CAPE, innovators in Education, continues to focus on the development for social change at a dynamic pace.
On the 8th August, ORT SA CAPE’s Constructive After School Programme for EnRichment, CASPER, was launched with 100 eager kids from the hostel of Berg River High School on the outskirts of the picturesque town of Wellington. Imagine the excitement when Larry Joe, their local singing hero, loped on to the stage. With his unique mix of music and motivational insights, he entertained the audience for an hour leaving them motivated to change their lives and take advantage of what ORT SA CAPE had to offer.

If 100 disadvantaged children enter school, 40 write matric, 28 pass, 4 enter university and 1 graduates with a degree in science or technology. Around 20 to 30 000 drop out of school by Grade 8 - many of them unable to read beyond a grade 3 level.
At the Gala Dinner, on Thursday 15th August, at the Sandton Sun Hotel, ORT SA, ORT SA CAPE and ORT JET were represented by Simon Susman, Lydia Abel and Paul Bacher.
